Case head failure or malfunction

A rather interesting malfunction occurred at the range today, that I had never experienced before. It was a case head failure or case head malfunction, where the cartridge actually separates at the rim of the cartridge during discharge. I felt the powder hit my face when I fired and smoke started pouring out of every […]

Upside down

Ha ha, this was fun and interesting. First it’s a bit disorienting being upside down and manipulating your firearm. Second I found that my Sig P226 wanted to slide lock even when there was a round in the magazine. Weird huh.

Firearm training: Back to basics 3 position firing

Working on from draw, fire from the high 2 position, the 3 or compressed ready and full extension. I should have been doing this on the DPL’s, guess I slipped into the game mode a little and extended everything. Video don’t lie and its a great way to self evaluate. Push it… stress training and shooting

Somebody during the push up challenge, challenged me to do push ups and shoot. So here is my first attempt at it. Physical stress with firearm training can really help you and in a number of areas. Firearm training: 9mm vs Plaster walls test

Having plaster walls in my home, I needed to know for myself just how tough my walls are and the penetrating power of my home defense rounds. In this test I used Corbon hollow points and some standard Winchester white box FMJ to check out penetration along with Gallus gallus domesticus used for poor mans […]

Firearm training: Inside car dry fire training

A look at dry fire training, tactics and safety from inside the car. Dry fire training is of huge benefit to the concealed carrier. The more you handle your firearm, the more comfortable you become with it. Nothing really takes the place of live fire, but I believe one should dedicate 3 times that time […]

Firearm training: Dry fire access and move shoot

Repetition is the key to this game. Many cant afford all the costs associated with going to the range a lot. It can get a bit costly. That does not mean that your practice is on hold. Dry fire, dry fire… dry fire. It is great training and will help the new or first time […]

Moving and shooting practice

This is one of the practice sessions I offer. Often times people get their concealed permit and wonder, well what other practice should I be doing? This is what you should be doing. Spending time with your firearm, getting to know it and how to safely use it. Moving and shooting is pretty much a […]

Move shoot with mag change

Little drill I use to work on getting off line while drawing from concealed and engaging target along with a tactical mag change and another target and a final administrative mag change. Putting one round on each target is so I conserve ammo. I use a paper plate with a postit in the center as […]
